Soo, right off the bat I had trouble figuring out the Omeka installation process! The module asked for us to install Omeka, yet the sample video was telling us to use Omeka S (I still don’t know if I picked the right one). When I finally did install it, I went too quickly through the process and used the automatic default settings so, of course, I didn’t know my username, password, and the title was all weird! Oops… After deleting it and reinstalling it a few times, I finally got it figured out. I knew right away what photos I wanted to have uploaded for this week’s exercise! Pictures of my pupper, Otis of course!! He is the third love of my life and brings me so much joy. When it came to finding a site that uses Omeka, I also had trouble with that! I think I found one though so check it out and please correct me if I am wrong! > https://www.amnh.org/exhibitions/extinct-endangered-insects . This site was my pick because it was one that I already knew about but didn’t realize how it was made so I thought that was pretty cool.
Being comfortable with installing/tinkering/re-installing until you get the results is the first skillset of the digital humanist. Looks great – we’ll be extending the Omeka installations a bit more in next week’s topic.
